Cowgirl Tennis Set To Compete At ITA Kickoff Weekend

ITA Kickoff Weekend Notes
The Basics
Oklahoma State's women's tennis team (1-0 overall; 0-0 Big 12) is set to compete at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Columbus, Ohio, on the campus of Oho State this weekend. The action starts Saturday morning at 9 a.m. (CST) when the Cowgirls face the Buckeyes (0-2 overall; 0-0 Big Ten). OSU will face either No. 20 Tennessee or No. 21 LSU depending on the outcomes of the matches. The regional consolation round will be at 9 a.m. (CST) Sunday and the regional championship will follow. The regional champion will advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships in Madison, Wisconsin, Feb. 11-12.

In the Rankings
Oklahoma State cracked the Top 25 in the 2021- 22 ITA Tennis Division 1 national women's tennis rankings, checking in at No. 24. OSU currently has three student-athletes ranked in the individual rankings, with freshman Oona Orpana earning the highest singles ranking of any Cowgirl as she landed at No. 55, while fellow newcomer Mhai Sawangkaew checked in at No. 86. In addition, Ayumi Miyamoto and Mhai Sawangkaew are the 56th-ranked doubles duo in the nation. Ohio State checked in at No. 11 and Tennessee was No. 20 followed by 21st-ranked LSU.

Oklahoma State holds a 2-1 all-time record against Ohio State. OSU is 1-1 all time against Tennessee and 4-2 against LSU.

The Cowgirls started off the spring dual season with a 5-2 statement win over No. 23 Princeton. The Cowgirls were set to face South Carolina before the match was canceled due to Covid protocols in the Gamecock program. This season, OSU returns Alana Wolfberg, Dariya Detkovskaya, Ayumi Miyamoto and Lora Boggs from last years team. OSU signed Sofia Rojas, Oona Orpana, Mhai Mananchaya and Martina Zerulo. Former Cowgirl and two-time all-American Lisa Marie Rioux will join the team for her last semester of eligibility to add to the depth of the roster. The Cowgirls set the stage this fall for high expectations come the spring season between the three returners and five signees. OSU has nine ITA preseason top 25 opponents on this years schedule.
