Former Cowgirl Soccer Standout Excels Off the Field
September 22, 2021 | Cowgirl Soccer
Krista Lopez was a key player for the Cowgirl Soccer team from 2008-11, leading OSU to four consecutive Big 12 Championships and two NCAA Elite Eight appearances while scoring 27 career goals to rank in the top 10 on the program's all-time scoring list.
Â
A two-time All-Big 12 First Team performer, Lopez scored 15 goals in 2010, the second-highest single-season total in program history. She also holds the OSU record for most goals in a single game as she piled on four goals against Arkansas-Little Rock in 2011. Not only a goal scorer, Lopez ranks in the top 10 in Cowgirl history with 18 career assists.
Â
"(While at OSU) I learned how to be a team player and how to be coachable," Lopez said. "I also learned that excellence can be achieved through hard work and dedication."
Â
Off the field, Lopez was known for shining in the classroom. A two-time Academic All-American, she was named the 2011 Capital One Academic All-American of the Year for NCAA Division I women's soccer by CoSIDA, and she was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team performer. She graduated from OSU with a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's in business administration.
Â
Post-graduation, Lopez embarked on a career with Phillips 66 as a senior financial analyst, where she summarized financial reports for the company and reported those to management.
Â
"I actually joined the company with no prior work experience," Lopez said. "But I was still able to succeed because of the skills and knowledge I gained as a student-athlete at OSU."
Â
After seven years with Phillips 66, Lopez recently took a job with Toyota Motor North America, Inc. in Dallas, where she will do financial analysis on Toyota's North America volume.
Â
Even though she graduated from OSU a decade ago, Lopez still attributes her time in Stillwater as vital to her professional success.
Â
"I will forever be grateful for all of the resources, time and effort everyone put towards my personal growth," Lopez said.
