OSU Softball Duo Earns CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors
July 29, 2021 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State softball standouts Hayley Busby and Carrie Eberle have earned CoSIDA Academic All-America recognition, it was announced today. In doing so, Busby and Eberle mark the first Cowgirl softball duo to be named Academic All-Americans in the same year since 1991.
This honor is the latest in an impressive line for Busby and Eberle in 2021, as both were named All-Americans for their performance on the field this season and both served as part of the core of an OSU team that qualified for its second consecutive Women's College World Series and placed second in the Big 12.
Busby earned All-America honors for the Cowgirls in 2021 as the outfielder led OSU with 19 home runs and ranked second on the club with a .376 batting average, 12 doubles and 49 RBIs. A graduate student working towards a degree in teaching, learning and leadership, Busby was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection.
Eberle earned Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Year and All-America honors this season as the right-hander went 26-4 in the circle and posted a 1.40 ERA and seven shutouts. In 190 1/3 innings, she racked up 156 strikeouts. Another graduate student and Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree, Eberle is working on a graduate degree in forensic sciences.
After being named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 First Team in early July, Busby and Eberle advanced to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Eberle was voted a first-team Academic All-American, while Busby earned Second-Team Academic All-America honors.
2021 marks the fifth consecutive year that the Oklahoma State athletics has produced at least four Academic All-Americans across all sports. With the at-large All-Americans and Track & Field All-America teams yet to be announced, Busby and Eberle could be part of a record-setting academic year for the Pokes. In total, OSU has had 29 of its student-athletes named Academic All-Americans since the 2016-17 season.
