July 01, 2021 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's Carson McCusker and Jake Thompson earned 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District Baseball Team honors, with both Cowboys being named to the first team.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. McCusker and Thompson were named to the Academic All-District 7 First Team; District 7 includes all Division I programs in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas.
The Cowboy duo now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, with first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees announced in late July.
The two first-team selections are the most in OSU program history and also match the most total selections for Cowboy Baseball, tying the 2008 team that had two second-team honorees.
A senior outfielder, McCusker started 37 games for the Cowboys in 2021 and earned honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference honors after hitting .305 with seven home runs and 35 RBIs. A three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, McCusker graduated from OSU with a degree in psychology.
Thompson was OSU's second-leading hitter in 2021, turning in a .342 batting average to go along with four homers and 32 RBIs, and he led the Big 12 in conference-only games with a .393 batting average. A first baseman and also an honorable mention All-Big 12 performer, Thompson earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors and graduated from OSU in May 2021 with a university studies degree.
