Cowgirls Run-Rule Red Raiders Behind Four Homers
April 10, 2021 | Cowgirl Softball
Lubbock, Texas – The Oklahoma State softball team improved their record to 31-5 (7-1 Big 12) on the season and clinched their third conference series by defeating Texas Tech (16-18, 0-8 Big 12) on Saturday.
Kelly Maxwell (12-1) got the start in the circle for the Cowgirls and struck out four in four innings of work. After giving up two runs in the first, Maxwell settled in and kept the Red Raiders off the board the rest of the outing.
Senior Logan Simunek came on in relief to pitch the final inning of the 12-2 run-rule victory.
After two scoreless innings to begin the game, the Cowgirl offense rattled off three innings of two or more runs.
The Cowgirls hit four home runs (Alysen Febrey, Reagan Wright, Karli Petty, and Chelsea Alexander) and racked up 12 hits in the victory.
Wright (1-for-2, RBI) hit her first home run in a Cowgirl uniform, while Alexander (2-for-2, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored) hit her first homer of the season.
Petty (1-for-3, 4 RBI) launched her second grand slam of the season to extend the Cowgirl lead to seven in the fifth, before Febrey (1-for-4, 3 RBI) put the game in run-rule territory later in the inning with a three-run shot and her 11th long ball of the season.
Sydney Pennington (2-for-2, BB) and Hayley Busby (2-for-4, RBI) also racked up multiple hits in the series-clinching win.
The Cowgirls and Red Raiders will close out their three-game series tomorrow at noon CT. The game will be live streamed on ESPN+.
