ST. LOUIS – Oklahoma State snapped Saint Louis' home unbeaten streak Saturday as Grace Yochum's golden goal in the first overtime lifted the 16th-ranked Cowgirls to a 1-0 win over the No. 17 Billikens at Hermann Stadium.
Yochum converted a penalty kick with just over two minutes remaining in the first extra period to move OSU to 8-2-1 on the season as the Cowgirls handed SLU their first loss in six matches this season.
The Billikens (5-1-0) entered the game on a school-record 25-game unbeaten streak (23-0-2) and were 39-1-5 in their previous 45 games on their home field.
On the decisive play in overtime, OSU All-American defender Kim Rodriguez intercepted a pass and dribbled upfield before lofting a beautiful pass ahead to Olyvia Dowell. But a SLU defender took Dowell down in the box, and the Cowgirls were awarded a penalty kick.
Yochum would step up and play hero as she converted the chance for her sixth goal of the season.
OSU finished with a 17-12 edge in shots in the match, with nine of those on frame.
Emily Plotz secured her fifth shutout of the season as the senior posted a career-high seven saves.
The Cowgirls return to action Sunday, March 14, when they travel to Denton, Texas, to take on North Texas.
