Cowgirls Make Statement With Landmark Win

STILLWATER, OKLA.- Oklahoma State's women's tennis team earned its first conference win of the season in dominating fashion, defeating TCU, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
With the victory, OSU earned its 200th win under the direction of head coach Chris Young. The Cowgirls also improved to 7-8 overall and 1-3 in Big 12 play on the year, while TCU fell to 9-7 and 3-4.
OSU jumped out to an early advantage when it took the doubles point behind Ayumi Miyamoto and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat's 6-2 victory over Isabel Pascual and Mercedes Aristegui. Right behind them came Lenka Stara and Alana Wolfberg, who clinched the doubles point for the Cowgirls after handling the duo of Marie Norris and Margaret Polk, 6-2. Dariya Detkovskaya and Daniella Medvedeva held a 4-3 lead when their match was called.
The Cowgirls followed their doubles performance with an equally impressive showing in singles play, starting with a dominating win from Daniella Medvedeva, who cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Margaret Polk. Alana Wolfberg took down TCU'
Mercedes Aristegui, 6-4, 6-4. Dariya Detkovskaya earned the match-clinching point for the Pokes with her 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 win over Isabel Pascual.
After dropping her first set, Ayumi Miyamoto responded by defeating Tate Schroeder, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. The final two matches came down to the wire with Lenka Stara and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat earning victories to complete the OSU sweep.
Thamchaiwat defeated Marie Norris, 7-6, 7-6, and Lenka Stara prevailed in three sets over Addy Guevara, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6.
Next up for the Cowgirls is a Bedlam showdown on Friday in Norman.
