Cowgirl Soccer Claims 2-0 Bedlam Win Over Oklahoma

STILLWATER – Penalty kick goals from Grace Yochum and Olyvia Dowell pushed the Oklahoma State women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Phillips 66 Bedlam Series rival Oklahoma on a windy afternoon in Neal Patterson Stadium Saturday.
The win delivered a Cowgirl 2020 season sweep of Bedlam and improved OSU to 8-1-1 in its last 10 against the rival Sooners.
Including Saturday's soccer result, Oklahoma State holds a 14-3 advantage over Oklahoma in the 2020-21 all-sports Phillips 66 Bedlam Series.
It also improved the Cowgirls to 11-2-1 on the season and marked OSU's eighth straight win, going back to the fall.
The first half was generally played in the middle third of the field, with the Cowgirls perhaps holding a slight advantage in the run of play. The two teams went into the locker room scoreless. That changed in the 50th minute, when Hannah Webb got loose on the left side and tore into the OU penalty box. She played a ball into the middle, but it bounced off the wrist of the defender. The referee called a hand ball in the area, which produced a penalty kick that Grace Yochum buried in the left side of the net. For Yochum, it was her team-leading 10th goal of the year and marked the sixth game in the last seven that she has scored.
Following Yochum's strike, the two teams went back and forth, with both creating chances that didn't produce goals. In the 85th minute, however, Olyvia Dowell beat her defender in the penalty box and was subsequently taken down, creating another penalty kick. Though she hasn't been OSU's primary penalty-taker this season, Dowell confidently stood over the attempt and put it in the back of the net to put a final punctuation mark on the Cowgirl victory.
OSU returns to action at 5 p.m. on April 3 when it travels to Fort Worth to battle TCU.
