FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 15 Oklahoma State soccer team lost a 4-0 decision to No. 3 TCU at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium Saturday.
With the win, the Big 12-champion Horned Frogs improved to 10-0-1 on the season. The Cowgirls suffered their first defeat of the spring schedule and dipped to 11-3-1 overall.
TCU entered the game known for its stifling defense, but it was the Horned Frogs' possession-based offense and success on free kicks that produced a 2-0 lead after just 26 minutes.
OSU All-American Kim Rodriguez had a pair of opportunities to cut the Horned Frog lead in half before intermission, but her long shot was denied by the keeper and her volley hit the post and bounced away.
The Frogs extended their advantage to 3-0 when Grace Collins scored in the 39th minute.
"TCU played really well in the first half," OSU coach Colin Carmichael said. "We were flat, not only effort wise, but we couldn't connect passes and keep the ball."
The second half was generally even, with OSU getting its share of opportunities on goal. The clearest chance to score came when Rodriguez floated another long shot that was similar to her attempt in the first half, but it banged off the crossbar.
TCU put the game away when Yazmeen Ryan found the back of the net in the 82nd minute.
"At half, we asked the team to show some fight," Carmichael said. "We made it competitive, we hit the bar, we hit the post, we did some good things but the damage was already done."
Oklahoma State wraps up the regular season at noon next Sunday when it takes on Notre Dame in Neal Patterson Stadium.
"We understand our performance today was not acceptable and we'll come out looking to be better against Notre Dame," Carmichael said.
