Cowgirls Finish Fourth at FSU Winter Classic
February 05, 2021 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
Tallahassee, Fla. – A trio of top-15 performances from Taylor Roe, Gabby Hentemann and Molly Born secured a 4th-place team finish in the FSU Winter Classic.
For the fourth-straight race of the 2020-21 season, Roe paced the Cowgirls throughout the race and across the finish line, earning the 4th-place finish overall in a time of 20:10.0.
Joining Roe at the front of the pack were Hentemann and Born. Hentemann has proved to be a consistent no. 2 runner for the Cowgirls in her sophomore season. She finished in 11th with a new 6K personal best of 20:38.4.
As for Born, the 2019 All-American spent ample time recovering from injury before her return to the course for the 2020-21 season. She picked up right where she left over a year ago with a 15th-place finish, crossing the finish line in 20:39.1.
"I think we proved today that, with the addition of Molly Born coming back from her injury, we have a great team," head coach Dave Smith said. "Although Molly didn't run her fastest time, she had a fantastic finish at 15 given the circumstances. When she's at 100 percent, and with the rest of the girls running the way they are, we can be really, really good."
Rounding out the Cowgirl finishers was freshman Heidi Demeo in 77th place (21:54.9), Sivan Auerbach in 80th (21:59.2), Ariane Ballner coming across the line in 94th (22:10.7) and Rilee Rigdon in 106th (22:26.8).
Oklahoma State's 4th place team finish was the best among Big 12 teams present at the FSU Winter Classic, beating out 2020 Big 12 Champion Iowa State, which finished in 5th, and 6th-place West Virginia.
After their performance today, the Cowgirls will have some time to recover and watch the rest of the nation race over the next month. If necessary, the Cowgirls will compete one final time before the NCAA Championship back in Tallahassee to round out their season resume and give the selection committee a full display of their ability.
