Oklahoma State Game Notes
• The Basics
RV/24 Oklahoma State welcomes the No. 6/6 Texas Longhorns to Stillwater for a nationally televised matinee featuring two of the most explosive freshmen in the country - OSU's Cade Cunningham and UT's Greg Brown. Both top-10 recruits nationally, Cunningham and Brown were teammates on the talented Texas Titans AAU team, and will now face off for a second time as collegiate foes. OSU's late rally in Austin fell short back in December in a 77-74 loss to the Longhorns. Saturday's game can be seen on ABC with Jon Sciambi and Fran Fraschilla on the call, and fans can listen to the game with Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb on the Cowboy Radio Network.
• On The Rebound
Despite its lack of size on the low block, Oklahoma State uses an effective team approach to rebounding that has the Cowboys at the top of the Big 12 in rebounds per game. OSU ranks 23rd nationally in total rebounds (39.2 per game), a mark that is currently the sixth best in school history and the best by a Cowboy squad since 2001-02. OSU's leading rebounder is 6-5 guard Isaac Likekele at 7.1 boards per game, which ranks fifth in the Big 12, but four other Cowboys average at least 4.7 rebounds per game.
• Canadian Cowboy
Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe has posted double-doubles in three of the last four games, and is quickly emerging as one of the Big 12's biggest threats on the low block. The Mono, Ontario product is fourth in the league in offensive rebounding (2.73 per game), and is averaging 15.8 points and 9.5 rebounds on 57.8 percent shooting over the last four ballgames. And while he and Cade Cunningham were never officially teammates, the two spent the summer of 2020 together in Arlington, Texas alongside OSU's other DFW players in an effort to get a jump on their season prep. Moncrieffe (who goes by "M-A") was the first two-time BioSteel All-Canadian Player of the Year, an award previously won by NBA lottery picks R.J. Barrett and Thon Maker. The Mono, Ontario native was a four-star recruit and the No. 57 player in high school basketball according to 247Sports. Moncrieffe is known for his ability to drive the ball, and averaged 21.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.7 steals, and shot 57.0 percent from the floor for Orangeville Prep as a senior.
• The Series With Texas
This will be the 99th meeting between Oklahoma State and Texas. The Cowboys are 45-53 all-time against the Longhorns, although the two teams have split the regular season series in each of the last four years.
• All The Ice
For his career, Isaac "Ice" Likekele is averaging 10.8 points and 6.8 rebounds on 48.8 percent shooting against the Longhorns. Likekele grew up just a few hours away from Austin in Arlington, Texas, and has produced a pair of double-digit scoring games against Texas.
