Cowgirls Open Spring With 3-0 Win Over Little Rock

STILLWATER – Olyvia Dowell scored twice, Grace Yochum scored once and the Oklahoma State soccer team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a convincing 3-0 win over Little Rock in Neal Patterson Stadium on Sunday.
The Cowgirls improved to 7-2-1 with the victory, while the Trojans dipped to 4-6-3 in defeat.
OSU created a number of chances from set pieces, with Yochum usually in the middle of the action. The opening goal of the game came from a corner kick in the ninth minute, when Dowell found Kim Rodriguez in the box. Rodriguez flicked the ball to Yochum, who buried it in the net.
The Cowgirls doubled their lead in the 27th minute when a Rodriguez free kick found Yochum at the far post. Yochum headed the ball across the six yard box to Dowell, who pounded the ball in for the score.
The game was put out of reach in the 57th minute when Hannah Webb's cross from the left side found Dowell in front of goal, where she then muscled it past the keeper.
The 3-0 score line may not have truly reflected the Cowgirls' dominance of the game. Little Rock defenders had to save two shots off the line in a first half that saw OSU pile up an 11-3 advantage in shots. The Cowgirls finished with 10 corner kicks to the Trojans' one and several of OSU's corner opportunities were threatening.
The second half had a different feel than the first, as OSU pulled most of its starters about midway through. While the goals and the chances slowed down a bit after intermission, the Cowgirls' possession numbers went up and Little Rock had only one true scoring opportunity - an 84th-minute shot that was turned away by a diving save from Amber Lockwood.
OSU returns to action next Saturday at noon when it travels to face Saint Louis.
