Oklahoma State Game Notes
• The Basics
Cade Cunningham returned to action and powered Oklahoma State to an 81-77 win over Arkansas, which bumped the Cowboys back into the USA Today Coaches Poll for the first time since 2019. The No. 24 Cowboys feature the Big 12's No. 2 ranked scoring offense, and improved to 28-6 under Mike Boynton when reaching the 80-point plateau. OSU is taking on a TCU squad that edged the Cowboys, 77-76, in Stillwater back on Dec. 16, but is looking to shake a five-game losing streak - all five to teams currently ranked in the AP Top-25. Wednesday's game can be seen on ESPN2 with Rich Hollenberg and Chris Spatola on the call, and fans can listen to the game with Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb on the Cowboy Radio Network.
• Late-Season Surge
Oklahoma State was 5-2 (.714) in the month of January, which was the program's most prosperous January since going 6-2 (.750) in 2005. That bodes well for the Cowboys, who have shown a propensity for late-season surges under Mike Boynton. OSU won seven of their final nine games before COVID-19 cancelled the 2020 postseason, and the 2018 Cowboys won five of their last seven games before falling in the NIT quarterfinals. In those two seasons, OSU was a combined 16-10 (.615) in February and March.
• Generational Talent
Cade Cunningham's size, vision and athleticism make him the ultimate stat-stuffer and a true generational talent. According to Stats Perform (formerly Stats Inc.), only four other power conference players over the last 20 seasons can match his all-around stat line of 18.1 points (tops in the Big 12, 2nd nationally among freshmen), 6.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.9 blocks per game - and none of those players can match Cunningham's 3-point clip of 38.9 percent. Cunningham also owns a plus/minus of +62 on the year, (+5.7 per 40) and draws a team-high 4.7 fouls per game.
• The Series With TCU
This will be the 38th all-time meeting between Oklahoma State and TCU. The Cowboys are 27-10 all-time against the Horned Frogs and 10-8 against TCU since they joined the league in 2013. The two squads have split the two regular season meetings in each of the last two seasons with the home team winning each time, although that trend will come to an end thanks to TCU's 77-76 come-from-behind win in Stillwater in December.
• Ice-Ing The Frogs
Isaac "Ice" Likekele has scored in double-figures in all six career meetings with TCU, and is averaging 12.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game against the Horned Frogs. Likekele, who hails from Arlington, Texas posted 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting and seven assists in his first game against TCU back in 2019.
