Cowgirl Soccer Battles To Draw In Lubbock
October 07, 2021 | Cowgirl Soccer
Carmichael Postgame
LUBBOCK, Texas – In a match that was even throughout, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech played to a fitting 1-1 tie Thursday night at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
With the result, the Cowgirls are now 6-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in Big 12 Conference play, while TTU is 9-3-2 and 2-2-1 in the league. The Red Raiders entered the game 8-0-0 on their home field this season.
The Cowgirls took an early lead on Gabriella Coleman's fourth goal of the season just 7:46 into the match. The senior dribbled past her defender into the box and ripped a left-footed shot from a tough angle off the far post and over the line to put OSU on top.
TTU would tie the game late in the first half as leading goal scorer Kirsten Davis turned her defender and fired a 20-yard strike to the far post to knot the score at 1-1 in the 36th minute.
That would be all the scoring, and the stats proved to be nearly identical. TTU tallied 13 shots, seven of those on goal, while the Cowgirls countered with 12 shots and six on goal. The Red Raiders had an 8-6 advantage on corner kicks.
Both teams had chances in the final 65 minutes, with OSU just missing on a pair of opportunities in the 58th and 59th minutes on a header by Coleman that was saved by Madison White and a shot by Olyvia Dowell that was deflected and rolled just wide of the goal.
OSU returns to action Sunday in Fort Worth when the Cowgirls take on 11th-ranked TCU in a match that will be televised on ESPNU beginning at 5 p.m.
