Cowgirls Complete Successful Day At ITA Central Regional Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team competed on day two of the ITA Central Regional championships at the University of Iowa today.
The day started off strong for the Cowgirls. Following yesterday's pair of doubles victories, both Cowgirl duos picked up dominating wins this morning. Ayumi Miyamoto and Dariya Detkovskaya defeated Gabriella Asensi and Emelie Schwarte, 8-1, and Martina Zerulo and Alana Wolfberg routed Lian Benedejcic and Marta Oliviera, 8-2, to advance to tomorrow's round of 16.
Each of the Cowgirls had byes in the first round of singles and began play this afternoon. OSU's lone singles loss came at the hands of Manami Ukita, who defeated Cowgirl Sofia Rojas, 6-3, 6-4.
Dariya Detkovskaya took down Laura Rijkers, 6-4, 6-4, in straight sets. Next, Martina Zerulo beat Valeryia Rozenkova, 6-2 6-7(5) 6-1. Ayumi Miyamoto earned a commanding, 6-2, 6-0, victory over Lingwei Kong. All Of OSU's representatives advance to tomorrow's round of 32. After dropping set one, Alana Wolfberg battled back and took down Mariana Manyoma Velasquez, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3.
Doubles play begins at 9 a.m. with singles following.
