STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State middle-distance runner Don Belcourt was inducted into the Montana Indian Athletic Hall of Fame this past Saturday, the organization announced.
Belcourt was initially honored in 2020, but the ceremony was pushed back to this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A native of Rocky Boy, Mont., Belcourt is a Chippewa Cree Tribal member and ran for OSU from 1985-88. While at Oklahoma State, he notably scored in the mile indoor and the 1500-meter outdoor steeplechase at the 1987 Big 8 conference meet.
Prior to his time in Stillwater, Belcourt ran for Haskell Indian Junior College in Lawrence, Kan. He was a three-time junior college All-American, placing second in the two-mile run, as well as sixth in steeplechase and seventh in the 5000-meter run.
Along with his individual honors, Belcourt helped his team win the National Junior College Athletic Association Marathon Nationals while finishing second himself.
After graduating from Oklahoma State, Belcourt went on to compete at the 1992 USA Olympic track and field trials in New Orleans at 1,500 and 5,000 meters.
