Cowboy Offense Speaks to Media
STILLWATER – Facing adversity early in the season hasn't stopped the Oklahoma State offense from trying to reach the expectations it set before the season.
Â
"Our goal coming into this year is to score 45 points or more," Cowboy Back Jelani Woods said. "With the adversity we've been having like against Tulsa and trying to build off of that, we are slowing it down, but still trying to reach that goal. As an offense we are trying to take it a step at a time and trying to improve from there."
Â
The Cowboys have taken a more physical approach on offense through two games as they have run the ball twice as many times as they have attempted to pass. This style of offense puts more importance on a young but improving offensive line.
Â
"As an offensive line we need to work on our finish better," offensive lineman Teven Jenkins said. "From week one to week two we did improve a little bit, but we are not to the point of what is expected of us and where we need to be."
Â
Jenkins is the cornerstone of the offensive line and coach Mike Gundy called him a potential "$40 million man". Playing both left and right tackle so far this season, Jenkins' play and work ethic has caught the eyes of his fellow blockers.
Â
"Teven Jenkins has played awesome," Woods said. "I feel like each play no matter if it's on the field or off the field, he always gives it his all. He plays like an All-American."
Â
While the offense hasn't quite reached its goal of scoring 45 points in a game yet, Jenkins and the Cowboys are 2-0 on the season.
Â
"As many touchdowns as we can get, I'm alright with it as long as we end up with a win," he said.
