Cowgirl Tennis Lands Inside The Top-10 In USTA Rankings, Top-15 In ITA Rankings
March 11, 2020 | Cowgirl Tennis
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team landed at No. 10 for the second week in a row in the latest USTA rankings, which were released on Wednesday morning. The latest ITA rankings, which were announced on Tuesday, moved OSU down two spots to No. 14, despite a perfect 2-0 record last weekend.
This is the 98th consecutive week that Oklahoma State has found itself in the top 25 of the ITA rankings. The last time OSU missed the cut was March 18, 2014. The Cowgirls started the spring season ranked No. 10 in the country and have not fallen lower than No. 16 since then.
In the USTA poll, Oklahoma State has not fallen any lower than No. 16 as well this season. The USTA started releasing their top-25 rankings on Jan. 29 and have released a new poll each week. The Cowgirls, sitting at No. 10 right now, are just one spot lower than their season-high ranking of No. 9.
The Cowgirls have started the 2020 season with a near-perfect 11-1 record, including nine non-conference wins and two victories against Big 12 competition. Oklahoma State is 4-1 against nationally-ranked opponents this season, with their only loss coming at the hands of No. 25 Ohio State during the ITA Kickoff. Ohio State is ranked No. 6 in the USTA poll and No. 5 in the ITA rankings.
By winning 91.7 percent of their matches, the Cowgirls have the third-highest winning percentage in the ITA top-25 behind No. 1 North Carolina, who is 16-0 this year, and No. 3 UCLA, who holds a 12-1 record this season. The only Big 12 team with a higher ranking than OSU in the ITA top-25 is Texas, who sits at No. 4 with an 11-3 record.
Those Longhorns have a 0-7 loss to Pepperdine, who the Cowgirls defeated in February, 4-3. Texas did, however, defeat Ohio State at the National Team Indoor Championship.
Oklahoma State will hit the road for just the second time this regular season. The Cowgirls will travel to Kansas to take on both Kansas State and KU on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
