Cowgirl Softball Moves Up in Rankings
March 10, 2020 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State softball team continues its upward climb toward the top 10 after sweeping through the Mizuno Classic last weekend. The Cowgirls (18-5) slot in at No. 13 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and No. 11 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
Â
Just as it did in week four, OSU ended week five of the season with a perfect record on its home field and is now riding high on an 11-game winning streak.
Â
In the Mizuno Classic, hosted in Stillwater, the Cowgirls dominated the competition by winning all five of their matches, with four run-ruled victories.
Â
The Cowgirls started tournament play with a pair of victories as they defeated Missouri State 15-1, and Murray State, 7-3. Against Missouri State, OSU's bats exploded for 12 runs in the opening frame.
Â
On the second day of the Mizuno Classic, the Pokes picked up right where they left off. They earned two more wins against Mercer, 11-2, and No. 25 Utah, 11-2. Like she did last week, Alysen Febrey was a force to be reckoned with at the plate. The senior transfer blasted two home runs against the Utes and finished with four home runs and 10 RBI on the weekend.
Â
To cap off the weekend, the Cowgirls shutout Missouri State 11-0 on the back of Kelly Maxwell's no-hitter, the second of the redshirt freshman's young career.
Â
The Big 12 conference was well-represented in this week's polls with four teams appearing in the top 25. Texas (No. 3/2) paces the conference while Oklahoma (No. 6/6) follows close behind and Baylor (No. 24/18) rounds out for the conference.
Â
Oklahoma State will compete in its first midweek matchup of the season when it takes on the visiting Wichita State Shockers on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN +.
