Quotes: OSU vs TCU
February 05, 2020 | Cowboy Basketball
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton
Thoughts on the game:
"I can't put into words how happy I am for the kids. All the struggles for the last month and a half just not finding success the way we all feel we are capable of, tonight we put it all together and played good basketball."
On Dee Mitchell:
"We had a lot of guys do a lot of good things. The guy who is going to show up on the stat sheet with the least significant stat line is Dee Mitchell who was incredibly important to us tonight. He settled us defensively, he gave us opportunities to get our matchups aligned. He was terrific."
On Isaac Likekele defending TCU's Desmond Bane:
"That was the game plan going in. He did a good job. I don't think got Bane got too many good looks where he was comfortable. He finished with 16 points on 16 shots. He is a really good player who we had to keep under wraps to give us a chance."
On the responsibilities given to Isaac Likekele:
"It is a lot to ask a 19-year-old kid, but he has big, broad shoulders and he accepts those challenges. Even when he doesn't play well it's not because he is not trying to give us everything he has. As we build the future of our program, he is an unbelievable foundational piece for us."
TCU head coach Jamie Dixon
On the game:
"We got off to a slow start. I thought we were getting it right. Then the second half came and it looked like we were executing and doing the things we talked about, but once again we couldn't sustain and I'm disappointed in how we finished. We fouled when we weren't supposed to. We have to play better. We are on a run here where we have not played well, especially on the road. Saturday we go home and we have to perform at a high level, and I believe we will. Congratulations to them."
On offensive struggles:
"We struggle on offense. Give them credit, but we have to do things better. If you're blaming, blame me, and if you're complimenting complement the Oklahoma State guys. I thought we had a good game plan offensively, but we didn't get to it. We didn't do anything we wanted to do. We had foolish fouls. They defended well."
On what happened in the second half:
"We fouled in the post. They hurt us with different guys posting up. We didn't defend well enough. We had 17 turnovers and gave them opportunities in transition. There's not a whole lot of good I can say."
On OSU's defense:
"They were out extending. We thought we had a plan for it. We weren't great with it at our place even though we won by 12. We have some offensive struggles to improve. We try to simulate it in practice but we haven't done a good enough job with it."
