February 25, 2020 | Cowgirl Tennis
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team fell one spot in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released on Tuesday to land at No. 14. This is the fifth set of team rankings released by the ITA since the start of the spring season.
This is the 96th consecutive week that Oklahoma State has found itself in the top 25 of the ITA rankings. The last time OSU missed the cut was March 18, 2014. The Cowgirls started the spring season ranked No. 10 in the country and have not fallen lower than No. 16 since then.
The No. 14 Cowgirls have started the 2020 season with an outstanding 9-1 record. OSU has logged wins over Abilene Christian, Wichita State, Central Arkansas, Oral Roberts, San Diego, Arkansas, Tulsa, No. 11 Pepperdine and No. 30 South Carolina. The Cowgirls started the year with five consecutive wins before their first loss to Ohio State, who is ranked No. 10 in the country. OSU is currently on a four-match win streak.
By winning 90 percent of their matches, the Cowgirls are tied for the second-highest in the top-25 along with Wake Forest and Tennessee. The only team with a better winning percentage is No. 1 North Carolina, who has started the season out with a perfect 14-0 record. Only four teams in the top-25 have more wins than the Cowgirls: No. 1 UNC (14), No. 2 Florida State (11) No. 3 NC State (15) and No. 10 Georgia Tech (12).
Oklahoma State will now have a weekend off before it begins Big 12 Conference play against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Stillwater, Okla. on March 6.
