Cowgirl Softball Holding Steady in the Polls
February 25, 2020 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team didn't move far in the polls following the third week of action. The Cowgirls rank No. 15 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and No. 14 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
OSU (8-5) returns home from Birmingham, Alabama, where it splits a four-game stretch in the Blazer Classic, going 2-2 over two days of competitions.
The Cowgirls opened the tournament with a tough 8-5 loss to Ole Miss. Despite a strong 10-hit performance from the Oklahoma State offense, the Rebels were able to tally seven runs from innings five through seven to overcome the Cowgirls' early lead.
Oklahoma State finished its second of two games on Friday with better fortune in a 1-0 win over No. 10 Louisiana. Runs were at a premium in the matchup; Carrie Eberle did her part in the circle to keep the Ragin' Cajuns off the board. The senior right-hander pitched a complete game shutout while ringing up six and giving up only two hits.
The following day, Louisiana bested OSU, 3-2, in the second matchup between the two top-15 teams. After a back-and-forth battle early in the game, the Ragin' Cajuns took the lead for good in the fourth, despite OSU threatening with the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh.
It was the last game of the weekend against host school UAB that would be the most notable for the Cowgirls. Eberle bested her own performance from a day earlier and tossed the first no-hitter of her career. OSU rallied behind her performance to string together a 3-0 over the Blazers.
Oklahoma State stays in town to host the OSU/Tulsa Invitational this weekend. Kicking off three straight home tournaments at Cowgirl Stadium, the Pokes will compete in a double-header against UIC and Louisville.
