The Basics
-Â The No. 14 Oklahoma State Cowgirls are hosting No. 11 Pepperdine this weekend in the Greenwood Tennis Center. OSU had last weekend off but will now return to play after back-to-back wins over Arkansas and Tulsa Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.Â
- Sunday's match was originally scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CST but was moved up so Oklahoma State fans can also catch the wrestling dual against Oklahoma at 1:00 p.m.
- The Cowgirls are 7-1 following their pair of wins over Arkansas and Tulsa. OSU recovered from its first and only loss of the season against the No. 25 Ohio State Buckeyes, who is now ranked No. 10 in the country.Â
- The Cowgirls jumped two spots in the latest ITA Rankings to come in at No. 14. OSU's highest ranking of the season was No. 10 before falling to 16, then back up to 14 in these latest rankings.
- Oklahoma State began the season on a five-match win streak. OSU has defeated Wichita State, Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Oral Roberts and San Diego this season.
- In the fall, the Cowgirls swept the ITA Central Regional Championships in the fall as Lisa Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto defeated teammates Dariya Detkovskaya and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat to claim the doubles title. Rioux was crowned the singles champion over Detkovskaya in the tournament as well.
Last Time Out
- The Cowgirls defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Feb. 1 in Stillwater with a score of 6-1.
- OSU dropped the doubles point with their only doubles win coming via No. 17 Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto. That pairing defeated No. 40 Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner, 6-4.
- The Cowgirls swept singles starting with No. 92 Miyamoto defeating Vera Ploner, 6-2, 6-0.
- Dariya Detkovskaya defeated Lian Benedejcic on court five, 6-3, 6-2.
- The third point of the match came when No. 16 Lisa Marie Rioux defeated Shura Poppe, 6-2, 6-2.
- Lenka Stara clinched the match for OSU with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Martina Davtyan.
- No. 29 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat defeated No. 52 Okalova, 6-0, 2-6, 1-0(12).
- The final point was won by Alana Wolfberg, as she defeated Laia Conde Monfort, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0(3).
A Look at Pepperdine
- Pepperdine is currently ranked No. 9 in the country. Pepperdine is just 3-2 this season, but both of their losses came against elite teams.
- Its first loss of the season came at the hands of No. 5 Duke at the ITA Indoor Championships. Pepperdine only scored one team point when No. 37 Jessica Failla defeated Yasmine Mansouri, 6-1, 7-6(4)
- Pepperdine was knocked out of the ITA Indoors by No. 9 Princeton after an 0-4 sweep.
- Pepperdine has the No. 1 ranked singles player in the country in Ashley Lahey. Lahey is 19-1 this season. Pepperdine also has the No. 36 and 37 players in the country in Anastasia Iamachkine and Jessica Failla, respectively. Lisa Zaar is also ranked for Pepperdine at No. 124. They do not have any doubles teams in the ITA rankings.Â
Cowgirl Quick Hits
- With the latest ITA rankings, OSU has now spent 94 consecutive weeks in the ITA top 25. The last time OSU was outside the top 25 was March 18, 2014.
- The Cowgirls have won at least 20 matches in each of the last five seasons. In that span, the Cowgirls have won 118 matches, including 29 wins in the 2015-16 season.
- Head coach Chris Young welcomes five new faces to the team this year in Dariya Detkovskaya, Ayumi Miyamoto, Alana Wolfberg, Ryan Thompson and Lenka Stara, who was added to the team at the beginning of the spring.
Cowgirls in the Rankings
- OSU is slated No. 14 in the 2020 ITA Division I women's rankings.
- OSU boasts two doubles teams in the rankings with No. 7 Ayumi Miyamoto and Lisa Rioux, and No. 33 Dariya Detkovskaya and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat. However, Thamchaiwat has been playing on court two with Lenka Stara to start the spring season, while Dariya Detkovskaya has played more often on court three with Alana Wolfberg when she does play in doubles.
- Sophomore Bunyawi Thamchaiwat earned the highest singles ranking of any Cowgirl at No. 28.
- Junior Lisa Marie Rioux is ranked No. 45 in singles.
- Ayumi Miyamoto earned herself a spot in the rankings at No. 80.
