Cowgirl Softball Ranked No. 16 in National Polls

STILLWATER – The first rankings of the regular season were released Tuesday following the actions from opening week. The Cowgirls hold the No. 16 spot in both the USAToday/Coaches Poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
Oklahoma State returns from the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where it earned a 2-2 record in its first tournament of the early season.
An opening day loss to No. 7/7 LSU on Friday lit a fire under the OSU squad. The following day, the Cowgirls proceeded to score a program record-tying 21 runs in a shutout victory over Florida A&M, a feat last achieved against Baylor on March 22, 2019.
Redshirt freshman Kelly Maxwell, in her collegiate debut, pitched a perfect game against the Rattlers. Her outstanding performance marks Oklahoma State's seventh-ever perfect game and the first perfect game in a debut in Big 12 history.
Later the same day, the Cowgirls fell to the Tigers, 3-2. To end the weekend, Oklahoma State completed the sweep over the Rattlers in a 6-2 victory, thanks in large part to Carrie Eberle. The senior transfer pitched a career-high 11 strikeouts in her second appearance as a Cowgirl.
The Big 12 is well-represented in the first polls of the regular season. Oklahoma (No. 2/3) leads the way while Texas (No. 6/6) is not far behind and Texas Tech (No. 17/19) rounds out the conference.
The Cowgirls are back on the road Thursday for a five-game stretch to compete against the nation's best in the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational. OSU faces Virginia Tech on Thursday at 9 a.m. to kick off the SPC Elite.
