NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team took the first installment of Bedlam on Tuesday night with a 66-53 win over Oklahoma in Norman.
The Cowgirls (4-2) raced out to a 13-2 lead after holding the Sooners (1-4) to a 1-of-9 start from the floor. Despite not scoring the final 3:37 of the quarter, OSU led 15-8 after the first 10 minutes after holding OU to just three field goals in the period.
OSU cooled off in the second quarter, but was able to keep the Sooners at bay after holding OU scoreless and forcing four turnovers over a four-minute stretch. Junior Ja'Mee Asberry drilled a trey with 30 ticks left in the half to send the Cowgirls into the break with a 29-20 lead.
Six-straight points from senior Natasha Mack pushed the Cowgirl lead to 35-22 with six minutes to go in the third. The Cowgirls extended to a 41-22 lead after opening with 12 of the first 14 points of the quarter. OSU held the Sooners to 2 of their last 13 from the field and Asberry drilled a long 3-pointer as time expired to give the Cowgirls a lead 50-30 with 10 minutes to go.
With less than five to go, Oklahoma hit back-to-back treys to fuel an 14-0 run to get within 10 at 56-46. However, sophomore Lauren Fields would halt the surge with a layup and the Cowgirls would extend back to 15 on their way to picking up their fourth win in Norman since 2016.
Mack finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Asberry scored a game-high 19. Freshman Taylen Collins chipped in with 12 points and eight boards.
OSU will open the home portion of its conference slate on Friday when West Virginia comes to town for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
