STILLWATER – Swedish standout and world top-50 amateur Maja Stark (pronounced like Maya) has joined the Oklahoma State women's golf team and will compete for the Cowgirls this spring.
Currently ranked No. 44 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), Stark competed as an amateur at three professional events in 2019, including second-place finishes at both the 2019 Scandic PGA Championship and the Anna Nordqvist Vasteras Open by Smart Provider on the Ladies European Tour.
Last April, the Abbekas, Sweden native advanced to the final round of the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur, a showdown of the top-72 amateur golfers on the planet. That week, she competed alongside fellow Cowgirl signee, Isabella Fierro, on the world's most famous course.
Stark had a 2018 to remember. She finished seventh at the 2018 World Junior Girls Championship in Ottawa, Canada, and represented Europe in the PING Junior Solheim Cup. As a member of the Swedish National Team, she helped her home country win gold at the 2018 European Ladies Team Championship.
Stark, who originally signed with OSU in November of 2018, joins a Cowgirl golf squad that surged to No. 15 in the GolfStat national rankings after a standout fall campaign. OSU won the Trinity Forest Invitational and also got an individual victory from Fierro at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational.
The Cowgirls will open the spring season on Feb. 2 at the UCF Challenge at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.
