STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team will begin the 2020 season ranked No. 11 in the 2020 ITA Division I preseason women's rankings released by the ITA on Wednesday.
The Cowgirls jump up one spot from their end-of-year rankings in 2019. Oklahoma State ended the 2018-19 season as the No. 12 team in the country thanks to a 21-8 finish on the season.
Oklahoma State is set to take on five of the top 25 teams in the 2020 regular season alone: Pepperdine (6), Texas (7), Kansas (19), UCF (13) and Miami (23).
Head coach Chris Young will look to lead multiple nationally-ranked Cowgirls to a successful 2019-20 campaign. Junior Lisa Marie Rioux earned the highest singles ranking of any Cowgirl as she landed at No. 16 in the latest ITA rankings. Sophomore Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and newcomer Ayummi Miyamoto came in at No. 29 and No. 92 respectively. In doubles, Miyamoto and Rioux are the No. 17 doubles team in the country, while Dariya Detkovskaya and Thamchaiwat are ranked No. 39 overall.
The Cowgirls will open the 2020 spring season with doubleheader against Abilene Christian and Wichita State on Jan. 11 at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. respectively.
