Cowgirl Tennis Comes in Second in Big 12 Preseason Poll

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team was picked second in the 2019 Big 12 preseason coaches poll released by the conference on Tuesday.
The Cowboys received 75 points to land in the second spot of the poll behind Texas, who just edged out OSU with 78 points. Baylor and Oklahoma come in third and fourth in the polls with 56 and 53 points respectively. Kansas (50), Texas Tech (49), TCU (32), Kansas State (27), Iowa State (21) and West Virginia (9) round out the rest of the top 10.
This is the fifth consecutive year in which the Cowgirls have been selected within the top three in the Big 12 preseason coaches poll, with the highest selection coming in 2017 at No. 1. OSU finished the 2018-19 season with a 21-8 record and went just 8-1 in conference play.
Head coach Chris Young will look to lead multiple nationally-ranked Cowgirls to a successful 2019-20 campaign. Junior Lisa Marie Rioux earned the highest singles ranking of any Cowgirl as she landed at No. 16 in the latest ITA rankings. Sophomore Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and newcomer Ayummi Miyamoto came in at No. 29 and No. 92 respectively. In doubles, Miyamoto and Rioux are the No. 17 doubles team in the country, while Dariya Detkovskaya and Thamchaiwat are ranked No. 39 overall.
The Cowgirls will open the 2020 spring season with doubleheader against Abilene Christian and Wichita State on Jan. 11 at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. respectively.
