Cowgirls Drop Another Close One Down The Stretch Against TCU

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Cowgirls dropped another close game at home to the Horned Frogs of TCU on Wednesday night inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. With the 72-68 loss, OSU falls to 12-8 (3-5 Big 12) on the season.
The Cowgirls got off to a slow start offensively before Ja'Mee Asberry hit a three to get the OSU attack going. The Cowgirls made a strong effort to get the ball inside the paint, shooting 58 percent from the field. Vivian Gray hit her first shot of the night with time winding down in the first quarter before TCU responded to tie the game at 20 at the first quarter break.
The two teams traded leads throughout the second quarter, but the Horned Frogs were able to capitalize on the deep shot, going 50 percent from behind the arc in the quarter. The Cowgirls continued to feed the ball inside but were held to just 23 percent shooting from the field to give TCU the 33-30 advantage going into the half.
 Clitan de Sousa led the Cowgirls in the first half with seven points and six rebounds.
Vivian Gray converted an and-1 opportunity shortly into the third quarter to bring the Cowgirls within two after TCU had extended their lead to five points. Lauren Fields followed the play with a block before both teams went cold from the field.
Fields knotted the game at 41 before Vivian Gray hit deep three to put the Cowgirls back in front. OSU was held in check for the final four minutes to give TCU a 47-45 lead going into the final ten minutes.
Ja'Mee Asberry started the fourth quarter by going 2-for-2 from the field to retake the lead. TCU would go on a run, shooting 57 percent from the field. As was the theme of the game, neither team could pull away and take a big lead. TCU would take the lead with 6:47 left in the game and never surrendered it.
OSU fought to the end, with Ja'Mee Asberry hitting a three with :09 left on the clock to pull the Cowgirls within two before late-game free throws sealed the game for TCU.
Vivian Gray and Ja'Mee Asberry led the Cowgirls with 19 points each, and Clitan de Sousa was the game's leading rebounder with 12 boards.
The Cowgirls return to action on Saturday, February 1 when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech at 3 p.m.
