Cowgirl Softball Ranked No. 13 in Both National Preseason Polls
January 28, 2020 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The hype around the 2020 Cowgirls continues to build as both the USA Today/Coaches Poll and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 were released on Tuesday. Oklahoma State slots in at No. 13 in both national preseason polls.
The placement marks the third straight year that OSU opened the season with a top-25 ranking. In last year's preseason polls, the Cowgirls came in at No. 22 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll and No. 21 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
Head coach Kenny Gajewski and the Cowgirls are coming off a 45-17 campaign in 2019 that saw the program return to the Women's College World Series for the first time since 2011. The 45 victories in 2019 also marks a season-best since 1994.
Despite saying goodbye to several key members of last year's team, the Cowgirls return a handful of talented players like junior Michaela Richbourg and sophomore Chyenne Factor. Along with the returners, OSU landed the best transfer class among the country in the offseason. Gajewski signed three transfers in ACC Pitcher of the Year Carrie Eberle (Virginia Tech) and All-Region performers in Alysen Febrey (Georgia) and Hayley Busby (Virginia).
The Big 12 conference was well-represented in this year's preseason polls with four teams appearing in the Top 25. Oklahoma (No. 3/3) paces the conference while Texas (No. 6/6) follows close behind and Texas Tech (No. 18/19) rounds out for the conference.
The Cowgirls are just 10 days away from their season opener in the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. OSU faces off against tournament host No. 11/11 LSU on February 7 at 6 p.m.
