Cowgirls Topple No. 25 West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — With just nine players suited up due to injury and illness, Oklahoma State's women's basketball team earned a hard-fought 57-55 win at No. 25 West Virginia on Wednesday night in front of 1,349 fans inside WVU Coliseum.
The Cowgirls led 6-4 before West Virginia went on a 10-0 run to lead 18-10 through the first 10 minutes.
OSU charged back with a 7-0 run of its own in the second and got within a possession before the Mountaineers stretched their margin back to six at 28-22 at the break.
In the third, OSU clawed back and tied the score at 33 apiece with 3:30 remaining on a layup by senior Clitan de Sousa. The Cowgirls extended to a 38-33 lead before taking a 38-37 advantage into the fourth.
In the final quarter, WVU used a 7-0 run to move in front 46-40 with five minutes remaining in the contest. However, sophomore Ja'Mee Asberry drilled back-to-back treys to knot the score at 46 before de Sousa put OSU back in front with a pair of free throws.
With a minute to go, Asberry hit a free throw. OSU rebounded her second and she hit a trey to put OSU in front 55-53. After WVU tied it de Sousa hit a jumper with 20 seconds left to give the Cowgirls their first win over a ranked opponent of the season.
Junior Vivian Gray led all scorers with 22 points while adding eight rebounds and five assists. Asberry poured in 16 points in the win.
The Cowgirls will be back in action on Saturday when they return home to face Texas at 1 p.m.
