In the Rankings

The Cowboys sit at No. 21 in the AP poll and were voted No. 25 by the coaches. Entering 2019, OSU had reached the top 15 of the AP poll at some point in 10 of the past 11 seasons. OSU had also seen a top 10 ranking in the AP poll at some point in eight of the past 11 seasons. Texas Tech is not ranked in either poll.
The Series
Saturday's game marks the 47th meeting between Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, with the series dating back to 1935. The 2019 season also marks the 24th consecutive year the teams have met. TTU owns a 22-21-3 edge in the all-time series, but Oklahoma State has won nine of the past 10 games, as well as each of the past five matchups in Lubbock. The Red Raiders have a 12-7-2 series edge in Lubbock, but have not won at home in the series since 2008. The last meeting at Jones AT&T Stadium saw OSU come away with a 41-34 victory. Coach Mike Gundy is 11-3 in his career against Texas Tech, while TTU coach Matt Wells is facing the Cowboys for the first time in his career.
Oklahoma State From a Distance
Oklahoma State is 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 play after an impressive team performance to hand No. 24 Kansas State its first loss in Stillwater last week, 26-13. The Cowboys rank No. 10 nationally in total offense and No. 2 nationally with 1,455 rushing yards this season. The story of the season so far has been the emergence of Heisman Trophy candidate Chuba Hubbard, who leads the nation in nearly every statistical rushing category, including rushing yards, rushing yards per game, rushing touchdowns, all-purpose yards, yards after contact (via Pro Football Focus), yards per carry (min. 70) and rushing plays of at least 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 yards. Hubbard's rushing total of 938 yards is 284 more than No. 2 in FBS - equal to the difference between No. 2 and No. 43 in FBS. Hubbard's rushing yards through five games are better than three of the past four running backs to win the Heisman, and his yards per carry total is better than all four. OSU is far from one-dimensional, as wide receiver Tylan Wallace is also making a case to repeat as a first team All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist, if not more. Wallace is third nationally with 618 receiving yards this season and No. 6 with six receiving touchdowns. He leads the Big 12 in both categories. Freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders has also impressed, ranking No. 3 among FBS quarterbacks with 380 rushing yards this season. Defensively, the Cowboys held Kansas State without a first down for more than 21 minutes and to 1-for-13 on third downs in last week's game. The Wildcats' 13 points were a season low and OSU also held K-State to season lows in total yards, passing yards and rushing yards. On the season, linebackers Amen Ogbongbemiga and Malcolm Rodriguez have tied for the team lead with 42 tackles each, while Ogbongbemiga has also led the way with 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks this season. Safeties Kolby Harvell-Peel and Tre Sterling have made their share of plays as well.
