Cowgirls Wrap Up Day One Play In Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – Four Cowgirls were invited to compete in the USTA Orlando Invite this weekend, and each of them competed in the main draws of both doubles and singles play on Friday.
Catherine Guilhur and Alana Wolfberg teamed up to take down McCartney Kessler and Victoria Emma of the University of Florida in the first round, 7-6(3). The second Cowgirl duo, Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Dariya Detkovskaya, would keep Oklahoma State perfect in doubles play by defeating Johanna Silva and Rebeka Mertena of Tennessee, 6-1.
Only one Cowgirl would pick up a win in the first round of singles play after Bunyawi Thamchaiwat defeated Megan Davies out of South Carolina in a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Catherine Gulihur lost her match to Mia Horvit of South Carolina in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Anna Rogers of North Carolina State defeated Dariya Detkovskaya, 7-6(3), 6-0. Finally, freshman Cowgirl Alana Wolfberg fell to Daevenia Achong of the University of Miami (Florida), 6-2, 7-6(2).
The second round of singles continued for all four Cowgirls on Friday. Thamchaiwat won her second-round match over NC State's Jaeda Daniel, 6-3, 6-4. In the consolation bracket, Detkovskaya defeated Kaitlin Staines out of Tennessee, 7-5, 6-3. Gulihur lost her consolation match to Central Florida's Rebeka Stolmar in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Finally, Wolfberg fell to NC State's Alana Smith, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0.
Both Cowgirl doubles teams will compete on Saturday morning as Gulihur and Wolfberg will take on the NC State duo of Alana Smith and Anna Rogers. Thamchaiwat and Detkovskaya will go up against Miami's Selma Cadar and Yuna Ito. Thamchaiwat will continue play in the main draw of singles play, while Detkovskaya will continue in the consolation bracket of the tournament.
