Hubbard Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week
September 16, 2019 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for his performance Saturday at Tulsa.
Hubbard's career-high 256 rushing yards against the Golden Hurricane marked the highest single-game total for any player in any FBS game this season. He averaged 8.0 yards per carry on a career-high 32 carries and scored touchdowns on runs of 75, 30 and 33 yards.
On the game's first play from scrimmage, Hubbard scored on a 75-yard rush. It came at the 14:50 mark of the first quarter and could be the quickest score in OSU football history. Hubbard then surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark with 11:23 remaining in the first quarter.
Hubbard hit the 200-yard rushing mark with 5:14 remaining in the third quarter to mark his second 200-yard game of the season. Only three players in the country have rushed for 200 yards in a game this season: Hubbard has done it twice, while Travis Etienne (Clemson) and Darrynton Evans (Appalachian State) have each done it once.
The numbers are even more impressive considering that Tulsa's defense had not allowed a 200-yard rusher since the 2014 season. The highest total it had previously allowed to any player this season was 53 yards. For comparison, TU held No. 18 Michigan State to 108 team rushing yards in East Lansing earlier this season, and Hubbard alone passed 108 yards in the game's first four minutes.
Hubbard's honor marks the first offensive player of the week award of his career and Oklahoma State's second player of the week recognition from the conference this season. Spencer Sanders was also named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after his performance against McNeese. Hubbard also received the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honor last season for his performance against Missouri State.
