OSU Track & Field Teams Honored for Academic Excellence

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State men's and women's track and field teams were honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday for their academic accomplishments during the 2019 indoor and outdoor seasons.
Ten Cowgirls and four Cowboys were honored with USTFCCCA All-Academic selections. Along with the individual accolades, the men's and women's programs were both recognized as all-academic teams by the USTFCCCA. The Cowgirls had a cumulative grade-point average of 3.42 while the Cowboys compiled a 3.32 GPA.
Ariane Ballner, Jenny Celis-Martinez, Amira Coleman, Kaylee Dodd, Bailey Golden, Sinclaire Johnson, Ryan Roane, Taylor Somers, Molly Sughroue and Schuyler Wood-Hilderbrandt were the 10 Cowgirl honorees. For the Cowboys, Kurtis Cotton, Mace Metcalf, Blake Scott and Ryan Smeeton were recognized.
Of the 10 Cowgirls honored, five earned a GPA of 4.0 for the semester. Ballner, Celis-Martinez, Johnson, Somers and Wood-Hilderbrandt each achieved the mark.
For an individual to qualify, an athlete must have earned a 3.25 GPA or higher, and finished the season ranked in the top 96 for an indoor event or as a member of a top-48 indoor relay team or competed at an outdoor regional.
To be honored as an All-Academic team, the team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and be competitive at the national meets.
This year's selection for the men's program marked the 10th time in Dave Smith's 11-year head-coaching tenure that the Cowboys earned All-Academic team status. Smith has served as the women's head coach for 10 years, and in all 10 of those seasons, the Cowgirls have earned All-Academic team honors from the USTFCCCA.
