OSU’s Ryan Smeeton Finishes Fifth at World University Games

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's Ryan Smeeton finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:40 at the World University Games in Napoli, Italy on Friday afternoon. Smeeton, a native of Calgary, Canada, represented his homeland in the competition.
A rising junior at OSU who won the 2019 Big 12 title and finished as the NCAA runner-up in the event during the collegiate season, Smeeton finished second in his preliminary heat Tuesday with a time of 8:50.56 to qualify for Friday's final. On Friday, Smeeton improved his preliminary time by over ten seconds.
At the Payton Jordan Invitational earlier this year, Smeeton claimed victory by running the second-fastest time in the world in the steeplechase at that point in the season with a personal-best time of 8:27.90.
