Cowgirls' Magical 2019 Season Ends on Survival Saturday
June 02, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2019 Oklahoma State softball team will long be remembered as the team that brought the program back to the Women's College World Series, but Saturday its incredible season came to an end as the Cowgirls were bested by No. 2 Washington, 1-0, in a clash under the lights of Hall of Fame Stadium.
OSU finishes the season with a 45-17 record, and set a number of new benchmarks and records for the program. The Cowgirls' 45 wins are the most by an OSU squad since the 1994 group won 46.
Samantha Show was the star for the Pokes in her final collegiate appearance, as she allowed only the one run in a complete-game effort to cap her time as a Cowgirl.
Show became a polarizing figure in the softball world this season for her bat flips after hitting monstrous home runs. In her final act, she caught a sharp-hit liner that was drilled right back at her and flipped the ball over her shoulder as she skipped back toward the dugout with a jubilant smile across her face.
At the plate, Oklahoma State was unable to muster much off Washington starter Taran Alvelo, striking out 16 times in 24 at-bats. The Pokes recorded three hits, including a single from freshman Chyenne Factor.
Factor also showed out defensively in the finale of her first Women's College World Series, as she robbed what would have been a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning.
While the end of a season is always the most difficult part, the 2019 Cowgirls can hold their heads high knowing that they have reestablished the program as one of college softball's elite teams and that they have helped raise the bar and set the standards of OSU softball.
