Stresnakova Earns All-America Honor and Doubles Tandem Advances

ORLANDO, Fla. – Cowgirl Katarina Stresnakova advanced to the third round of singles play the NCAA Championship on Tuesday, upending Washington State's Michaela Bayerlova, 6-0, 6-2.
"It was a great day for our girls on court," coach Chris Young said. "Katie played one of her better matches this year when she had the opportunity to become an All-American. I am thrilled with her development, and it's great for her to become an All-American as a senior. Henner has done an outstanding job with her this year, and today they had an excellent plan."
Stresnakova's All-America nod marked the sixth-consecutive season in which a Cowgirl has reached the milestone. She improved to 14-12 this season with the victory and is set for a rematch with UCLA's Jada Hart in the Sweet 16. Their bout in February at the Greenwood Tennis Center went unfinished.
Sofia Blanco and Catherine Gulihur also picked up a win for the Cowgirls on the opening day of doubles action. The 2019 All-American alongside freshman standout Gulihur topped Wichita State's Fatima Bizhukova and Marta Bellucco, 6-1, 6-1, and never trailed.
"Sofi and Catherine are a very dangerous team in this tournament," Young said. "They understand how their games complement each other, and today they kept it simple and executed well. I'm excited for them to have another opportunity tomorrow."
The duo was coming off an upset win against North Carolina's second-ranked Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham. Today's win moves them to 15-4 this spring as they look ahead to a round-of-32 bout against the winner between Hana Mraz and Julia Rosenqvist (Cal) and NC State's Anna Rogers and Alana Smith.
