Stresnakova Advances to Second Round at NCAA Championships
May 20, 2019 | Cowgirl Tennis
ORLANDO, Fla. – Oklahoma State women's tennis senior Katarina Stresnakova knocked off South Carolina's No. 17 Paige Cline on Monday evening at the USTA National Campus, 6-2, 6-4.
The senior controlled the first set from the beginning and after starting the second set with back-and-forth play, came out on top again. The win pushed Stresnakova to 13-12 on the year and marked her seventh victory against a ranked opponent.
"Katie played a very solid match tonight against a tough opponent," coach Chris Young said. "Henner did a great job on court with the plan, and Katie executed at a high level. I'm excited for her to move on and have another opportunity tomorrow."
Stresnakova was the lone singles player for the Cowgirls to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA individual championships this spring.
The Cowgirl resumes play tomorrow against Michaela Bayerlova of Washington State, who is coming off a win over Winthrop's Lauren Proctor. The pair is scheduled to meet at 10:30 a.m. in the round of 32.
Teammates Sofia Blanco and Catherine Gulihur join Stresnakova in play tomorrow with doubles action. The 31st-ranked duo faces No. 30 Marta Bellucco and Fatima Bizhukova of Wichita State tomorrow at noon CT, looking to improve upon its 14-4 record. The doubles tandems met earlier this season, but the match went unfinished.
