STILLWATER – Four Oklahoma State Cowgirl tennis players earned Big 12 postseason awards, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
OSU senior Katarina Stresnakova collected her inaugural first-team All-Big 12 nod after spending the majority of the spring season in the No. 1 spot for the Pokes. Stresnakova has gone 12-10 this spring with half her victories coming against ranked opponents.
Veteran Sofia Blanco and freshman playing partner Catherine Gulihur received a nod for first-team doubles, marking Blanco's second consecutive year reaching that mark. The duo went 5-0 in the fall before teaming up to put together a 12-4 dual season and dropping just one match in Big 12 play. The tandem is 9-1 in their last 10 bouts heading into the NCAA Championship. In her first season with the Cowgirls, Gulihur also claimed a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman team.
Marina Guinart and Blanco also acquired Big 12 individual champion titles at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Guinart went undefeated in league play and Blanco lost just one match over the course of the Big 12 regular season.
OSU opens NCAA play this weekend as it hosts No. 19 Miami, No. 34 Washington State and Central Arkansas in regional action. The team faces the UCA Bears in the first round at 5 p.m. on Friday. If the Cowgirls win, they will advance to the second round, which is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. with the hopes of securing a spot in the Sweet 16.
