Cowgirl Softball Holds at No. 12 After Top-15 Sweep

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team used a trio of top-15 wins over the weekend to maintain its standing in the rankings this week, as the Cowgirls held steady at No. 12 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and remained at No. 13 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
Tuesday's No. 12 ranking is tied for OSU's highest mark since finishing the 2011 season at No. 8.
Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 20 of at least one of the national polls for 12 consecutive weeks, marking the longest such stretch by a Cowgirl squad since 2010. The Pokes have also been ranked in at least one of the national polls in 24 of the last 26 weeks.
The Cowgirls (37-11; 13-2 Big 12) are riding an 11-game winning streak - one game shy of matching their longest winning streak under coach Kenny Gajewski. This past week, OSU won its four scheduled contests, first besting North Texas in the Pokes' midweek finale and then sweeping No. 13 Texas Tech over the weekend.
All three of OSU's wins over the Red Raiders were the result of come-from-behind efforts, as the Cowgirls overcame multi-run deficits each day, highlighted by a seven-run rally in Saturday's series clincher.
So far in 2019, Oklahoma State has defeated teams that were either ranked or receiving votes in at least one of the national polls 19 times in 25 such matchups. Seven of those wins came over top-15 opponents.
This week, OSU continues its chase for the program's first conference title since 1995. To win the Big 12, the Cowgirls will have to do something they haven't done since 1993 though - sweep No. 1 Oklahoma.
It is the third-straight year that the Bedlam series will decide the winner of the conference crown. The Sooners came out on top in the first two, but the 2019 Cowgirls have proven themselves to be a resilient bunch so a tightly-contested series is expected.
Friday and Sunday's games will be held in Stillwater, with Saturday's to be played in Norman. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT Friday night on Fox Sports Plus.
