Cowboy Wrestling Wraps Up Day Two at U.S. Open

LAS VEGAS – The 2019 Marine Corps U.S. Open resumed action Friday as several Cowboys and former Cowboys kicked off competition in the senior and junior freestyle divisions, while Chandler Rogers wrapped up his senior Greco-Roman competition with a third place finish at 82kg.
After a 3-2 loss in his first bout on Thursday, Rogers rattled off four straight wins to earn a spot in Friday morning's consolation semifinals. Rogers advanced via injury forfeit to the third place match, where he defeated Terrence Zaleski, 8-0, to earn bronze.
Rhett Golowenski, Travis Wittlake, Gavin Stika and Austin Harris all competed in junior freestyle competition. Wittlake (74kg) and Stika (79kg) each won their first two matches to advance to Saturday's round of 16, and Harris (97kg) drew a first round bye to get a spot in the round of 16.
In senior freestyle competition, freshman NCAA runner-up Daton Fix (57kg) dominated his way to a spot in Saturday's finals, compiling a perfect 5-0 record while outscoring his competition 50-9. Fix beat former Lehigh NCAA champion Darian Cruz in the semifinals, 2-0. He will wrestle former Iowa Hawkeye Thomas Gillman for first place Saturday.
Former Cowboy and three-time NCAA champion Alex Dieringer cruised his way through the 79kg bracket, going 4-0 on the day while outscoring his opponents 42-0. Dieringer will take on former Lock Haven wrestler Chance Marsteller in the finals.
Ex-Cowboys Jordan Oliver (65kg) and 2019 NCAA runner-up Derek White (125kg) each wrestled their way to the semifinals before dropping their bouts. Oliver and White will both resume action in consolation semifinals Saturday.
