STILLWATER – Cowgirl tennis players Sofia Blanco, Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova were named to the first team 2019 Academic All-Big 12 team, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
First team members consist of athletes who have maintained a 3.20 grade point averages or better. Blanco and Stresnakova boasted 4.00 GPAs, representing Cowgirl Tennis as one of two programs with multiple players reaching that mark.
"I continue to be amazed by the work our girls do in the classroom," coach Chris Young said. "They are dedicated to being the best in all areas, and I'm proud of them and thankful that they're being recognized."
The nod comes as Guinart's first and Blanco and Stresnakova's third time bringing home the award. Guinart is set to finish her degrees in marketing, management and entrepreneurship next month, and both Blanco and Stresnakova will graduate with degrees in psychology.
To qualify for first or second-team honors, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
