Cowgirl Equestrian Falls to Top-Ranked Auburn in NCEA Semifinals

WACO, Texas – Oklahoma State's fourth-ranked equestrian team fell to top-seeded Auburn, 11-5, in the semifinals of team competition at the NCEA Championship on Thursday at the Extraco Events Center.
The Tigers struck first in OSU's second meet of the day, sweeping Equitation Over Fences and jumping out to a 4-0 lead.
Meanwhile in the coliseum, OSU's Horsemanship team split its event, 2-2. Maddie Bender and Emma Verplank registered points for the Cowgirls.
Auburn led 6-2 at the midway point with Equitation on the Flat and Reining remaining.
Team captain Hannah Mitchell scored the lone point for the Reining squad, defeating Deanna Green, 205-194.
The day concluded inside the show pavilion with Flat where OSU tied Auburn in the event, 2-2. OSU's flat points came from sophomores Katie Schell and Abigail Brayman.
Prior to the semifinals, OSU defeated SMU in the quarterfinals earlier in the morning, 8-6. The meet came down to the last ride of the day with OSU leading, 7-6, but trailing in raw scores.
Freshman Hannah Lovrien defeated Aubrey Alderman on a reride, 197.5-0, to clinch the victory.
Schell and Hannah Janson led the Cowgirls on the English side, combining for a 4-0 record in Fences and Flat.
All-Americans Harley Huff and Sarah Miller notched two points in Horsemanship as OSU took that event, 2-1.
All four event teams continue competition tomorrow in their respective brackets. Quarterfinals for Reining and Fences begin at 8:35.
Flat quarterfinals start at 1:55 and Horsemanship quarterfinals get going at 3:30.
