April 16, 2019 | Cowgirl Golf
BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma – Michelle Forsland earned All-Big 12 Championship team honors and Oklahoma State finished sixth at the 2019 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship at the Golf Club of Oklahoma.
Forsland posted four birdies on the afternoon, none more important than her putt on No. 18 to clinch a spot on the All-Big 12 Championship team. The junior was 4-over 76 on the day to finish in a tie for eighth place at 11-over 227.
At least one Cowgirls has earned a spot on the all-championship team in all 23 years of the league's existence, including nine in the last six years under head coach Courtney Jones.
As a team, the Cowgirls battled strong wind gusts all week, but managed to enter the final 18 holes in third place after carding rounds of 300-309 on Sunday and Monday. The momentum continued into Tuesday when OSU surged into second place after six holes.
That's when the conditions caught up with the Cowgirls and they slipped on the leaderboard into sixth place after a final round 27-over 315. OSU ended the event at 60-over 924.
Texas had the top four individual finishers and took home their third straight Big 12 team title after a 54-hole total of 13-over 877. Their 37-stroke margin of victory shattered the old Big 12 Championship record. Agathe Laisne edged out her Longhorn teammates Kaitlyn Papp and Sara Kouskova by three strokes for the Big 12 individual crown.
Lianna Bailey was one of three Cowgirls to card a birdie on No. 18. The freshman tied for 14th after a final round 7-over 79.
Fellow freshmen Han-Hsuan Yu and Sara Camarena tied for 23rd and 37th, respectively, while sophomore Emma Whitaker finished 41st in her first career Big 12 Championship appearance.
The Cowgirls now await the NCAA Women's Golf Regional Selection show on Golf Channel on Wednesday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m. Central.
