BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma – Oklahoma State tamed a howling South wind at the Golf Club of Oklahoma to jump into third place with 18 holes to play at the 2019 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship.
The gusts of up to 30 miles per hour battered the field – 2-over 74 was the top round of the day – but the Cowgirls managed the course as well as anyone to leap Kansas and TCU and join the championship group for Tuesday's final round. OSU shot a second-round 21-over 309 to sit at 33-over for the event, and will tee off at 10 a.m.
"It was a battle," said Cowgirl head coach Courtney Jones. "The Oklahoma winds were blowing all day long, so it took a lot of patience and perseverance. I thought our team did a good job of staying patient and giving themselves opportunities as the round went on."
Cowgirl junior Michelle Forsland's patience paid off in the form of two birdies over the final three holes. Forsland was 1-under on the back nine and 2-over for the day to move into a tie for 10th place with 18 holes to play.
"I'm really excited, I'm getting goosebumps," Forsland said. "We struggled a lot this spring, and I think it's really nice to see that it's coming together for several of us. Our work is finally paying off."
Lianna Bailey will enter the final round in a tie for fifth place after carding a 6-over 78. The freshman is only seven strokes off the lead, and is also joined in the top-10 by fellow freshman, Han-Hsuan Yu, who carded a 7-over 79 on Tuesday.
No. 2 Texas leads the field by 22 strokes at 8-over 584, followed by No. 32 Baylor at 30-over 606. Longhorn freshman Agathe Laisne is atop the individual leaderboard at 1-under 143, and is the only player under par after 36 holes.
Cowgirl freshman Sara Camarena posted seven pars on the back nine to jump nine spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 29th, while Emma Whitaker will enter the final round in 44th place.
