Oklahoma State Game Notes
• The Basics
The Oklahoma State freshmen stole the show on Wednesday night at Baylor. Isaac Likekele posted 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists and Yor Anei scored 14 points, grabbed nine boards and blocked six shots to ruin senior night in Waco. Now, the Cowboys (11-19, 4-13 Big 12) will host a resurgent West Virginia (12-18, 4-13 Big 12) squad in the regular-season finale. The Mountaineers pulled an upset of their own on Wednesday, topping Iowa State thanks to 28 points from Jermaine Haley. The Cowboys topped the Mountaineers, 85-77, in Morgantown on Jan. 12, and a win in GIA on Saturday would clinch the season sweep and the No. 9 seed in the upcoming Big 12 Championship.
• On the Air
The matchup will air on ESPNews at 3 p.m. Central. The crew of Mark Neely and Tim Welsh will handle the on-air duties. The webcast is available at WatchESPN.com or the WatchESPN app. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have the Cowboy Radio Network call, which can also be heard on TuneIn Radio or on satellite radio Sirius 84 and XM 84.
• Swinging Pete
Oklahoma State will honor its NCAA champion men's golf team on Saturday by raising a banner into the rafters of GIA at halftime. The Cowboy golf team was the No. 1 team in the country all season and ran away with the NCAA title at Karsten Creek last May. The championship was No. 52 in the storied history of OSU Athletics, which ranks fifth among all schools nationally.
• Seeding Situation
Saturday's game between Oklahoma State and West Virginia will determine the No. 9 and No. 10 seeds in the upcoming Big 12 Championship. The winner will be the No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 TCU on Wednesday at 6 p.m., while the loser will drop to the 10 seed and face No. 7 Oklahoma at 8 p.m. Both games will air on ESPNU with Jon Sciambi and Robbie Hummel calling the action. The only other seeds up for grabs on the final day of Big 12 play are No. 1 and No. 2, and that race could come down to Kansas State's tiebreaker advantage over Texas Tech.
• Anei Quick Hitters
• Baylor entered Wednesday night's game tops nationally in offensive rebound percentage, but Yor Anei and OSU held the Bears to just three second-chance points on the night.
• At Baylor, Anei posted his second six-block game of the season, which tied for the most in a Big 12 game this year. He joins Byron Houston as the only other Cowboy freshman with a pair of six-block games. Anei now has seven games of four-plus blocks, a feat only six other OSU players accomplished over their entire careers.
• Anei, who on Wednesday set the program record for blocks by a freshman, has 38 total blocks in conference play. Only one other Cowboy has ever had more in Big 12 season - Andre Williams with 45 in 2003 and 39 in 2001.
• At 12.29 percent, Anei ranks 10th nationally - and fifth among power conference players - in block percentage, which is the percentage of opponents' two-point shots that are blocked by the player while he is on the court.
• The Series With The Mountaineers
This will be the 15th meeting in the overall series between Oklahoma State and West Virginia, and the series is now tied at 7-7. Oddly enough, the Cowboys have won the last three meetings in Morgantown and the Mountaineers have won the last four matchups in Stillwater, which is currently tied with Baylor for the longest win streak in Gallagher-Iba Arena by any team.
• Cowboy Success Against WVU
Oklahoma State is the only team to win in its last three trips to WVU Coliseum and is the only Big 12 squad to have a winning record in Morgantown. The Cowboys own a 5-2 edge in Morgantown, which is just ahead of Baylor's 4-3 mark. In his last two games against the Mountaineers, OSU junior Cameron McGriff has averaged 18.0 points and 9.5 rebounds to lead the Cowboys to victory in WVU Coliseum. Fellow OSU junior Lindy Waters has also had success against the Mountaineers, and is averaging 8.2 points on 63.6 percent shooting from 3-point over his career.
• 850 Wins And Counting
West Virginia is led by legendary head coach Bob Huggins, who has amassed 857 wins in his career. He is currently ranked seventh among all NCAA Division I coaches in wins, and is the fourth-winningest active Division I coach. He has led West Virginia 10 postseason appearances, including the 2010 Final Four, and is a veteran of 32 career postseason appearances as a head coach.
