The Basics
The No. 8 Cowgirl tennis team comes off a successful outing at the Blue Gray Championships in Montgomery, Ala., where it knocked off three top-40 opponents en route to the tournament title. The Cowgirls defeated Auburn on the first day of play and went on to shut out Big 12 foe Texas Tech and swept Wake Forest in the finals. After a week off, the Pokes look to pick up another win in the Greenwood Tennis Center on Friday evening when the No. 39 Gonzaga Bulldogs visit Stillwater.
The Bulldogs
Gonzaga women's tennis comes in at No. 39 in the Oracle/ITA Division I team rankings this week. The Bulldogs are 6-2 on the season with five of those wins coming on their home courts. The Zags enter the contest at OSU on a two-match win streak. The team boasts a top-10 player in senior Sophie Whittle (No. 7). Whittle and doubles partner Graciela Rosas are the 25th-ranked tandem in the country.
Cowgirls in the Rankings
In this week's Oracle/ITA Rankings, four Cowgirls received rankings. Katie Stresnakova leads the team at No. 26. Marina Guinart falls in at No. 83, with Blanco at No. 124. After winning Feb. 26, Co-Big 12 Player of the Week, Lisa Marie Rioux broke into the rankings for the first time in singles this season at No. 117. Blanco and Catherine Gulihur remain the highest ranked doubles tandem for the Cowgirls at No. 21, and Blanco is ranked 39th alongside partner Lisa Marie Rioux.
