Strong Weekend Keeps Cowgirls In Top 20
March 05, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team continued to hold a spot in the top 20 of this week's rankings, as the Cowgirls reside at No. 19 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and at No. 18 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
It is the fourth straight week that the Cowgirls have held a top-20 ranking in at least one of the national polls - the longest stretch by a Cowgirl squad since a four-week run that began April 12, 2011. OSU has also now been ranked in at least one of the national polls in 16 of the last 18 weeks, peaking as high as No. 15 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 on Feb. 13, 2018.
The Cowgirls are off to a 14-5 start to the 2019 season, which is the program's best 19-game record since also posting a 14-5 mark to start the 2011 season. Seven of the Pokes' 14 wins have come against teams either ranked or receiving votes, with two of those victories coming against top-15 foes (No. 13 Kentucky and No. 13 Arizona State).
Oklahoma State is coming off a perfect 4-0 weekend as hosts of the OSU/Tulsa Invitational. The Cowgirls picked up three run-rule wins during the weekend, polished off by a 12-0 victory over Northern Iowa on Saturday, March 2.
OSU has four more games on the docket, including its first midweek action of the year, as the Cowgirls host Wichita State Wednesday night at 6 p.m. before heading to the Pacific Northwest to face No. 24/24 Oregon in a three-game series beginning Friday. This weekend's series with the Ducks, whom OSU has faced 18 times previously, will mark the first time the two historic programs have met at a non-neutral site.
