Cowgirls Fall To K-State On Senior Night

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team closed out its regular season on Monday night with a 68-58 loss against Kansas State on Senior Night in front of 1,701 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowgirls end the regular season with a record of 14-15 overall and 5-13 in Big 12 play, while the Wildcats improved to 20-10 overall and 11-7 in conference play.

Senior forward Maria Castro got out of the gates quickly in her last regular season game inside GIA, putting up seven points and four rebounds including a 3-pointer from the top of the key. The Cowgirls led 14-8 heading into the second quarter with the help of their defense, which held the Wildcats to four baskets on 25 percent shooting in the opening period.

In the second quarter, the Cowgirls continued their stifling defense, which resulted in a 32-18 lead at the end of the first half. OSU had a 27-15 advantage on the boards in the first half, with senior LaTashia Jones and Castro leading the way with eight rebounds each.
Sophomore forward Vivian Grey scored the Cowgirls' first seven points of the second period in the span of 2:32. Gray, the second-leading scorer in the conference, totaled 16 points in the game on 7-of-18 attempts.

In the third, Kansas State used an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to 37-36 at 4:53. The Cowgirls held a one-point lead at 44-43 heading into the final quarter. OSU turned the ball over six times and shot 31 percent from the field in the quarter.
The Cowgirls shot 28 percent from the field in the second half, compared to the Wildcats' 62 percent.
Castro tallied her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
